Some people say that gambling is wrong, and others say that since it is not expressly mentioned anywhere in the Bible (they are looking for "thou shall not gamble"), so it could not be wrong.
In our modern times, people gamble so much because it is socially acceptable and readily available (at the click of a finger, you can download a gambling app) but truthfully gambling dates back to generations, it had been a part of humanity for thousands of years. But does that make it right?
The most prevailing traits believed to draw people to gambling is the idea of getting something for near nothing or for nothing in certain cases; thereby thinking we have the chance to have a life-changing win, for a minimal stake. It goes without saying that different people of different ages and socio-economic backgrounds will gamble for a variety of reasons and motivations. So it seems there is no simple answer to this question at hand since the motivation to gamble varies.
Having thought this through, it is obvious that many people do not understand that like many other things, gambling can be extremely addictive. Family and friends of people with gambling addictions often ask why their loved ones will continue to gamble despite the fact that it is causing so much financial difficulty. Now we see that, when someone still continues to gamble even though they are losing money, then they definitely need to seek additional help. IT HAS BECOME AN ADICTION!
Dear Children of the creator of the heavens and the earth, I therefore submit that Gambling is completely ungodly and totally against God’s principles, so for Christians note the following about GAMBLING;
1. It violates the principle of stewardship – Gambling is totally a mismanagement of the provisions of God to you. – 1 Peter 4:10 GNB (Each one, as a good manager of God's different gifts, must use for the good of others the special gift he has received from God).
2. It contradicts work ethic as God ordained - Genesis 3:19a GNB (You will have to work hard and sweat to make the soil produce anything). Remember Jesus Himself was a carpenter like His father Joseph.
3. It affects your influence as a Christian - 2 Cor 8:21 GNB (Our purpose is to do what is right, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of others).
4. It is an offshoot of greed & covetousness.
5. It exploits others or extorts money for one’s own advantage.
All the above compares of Gambling & God’s principles brings me to a conclusion that; gambling is immoral and as such it’s sinful.
So beloved Christian “If you used to rob, you must stop robbing and start working, in order to earn an honest living for yourself and to be able to help the poor” Ephesians 4:28 GNB
For God has revealed his grace for the salvation of all people. That grace instructs us to give up ungodly living and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in this world, as we wait for the blessed day we hope for; when the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ will appear. Titus 2:11-13 GNB
