Text : 1 Peter 1 : 18 – 19

For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.

Until you understand the power, purpose and protection of the blood, you will not be able to comprehend the gravity of what the blood of Jesus was shed for on the cross of Calvary. The blood is so precious according to our text. It is only the blood of Jesus that guarantees the remission of sin.

Life is blood and the blood is life. Leviticus 17: 14 (NIV) - "because the life of every creature is its blood. That is why I have said to the Israelites, “You must not eat the blood of any creature, because the life of every creature is its blood; anyone who eats it must be cut off.”

As seen in 2 Chronicles 7 : 5, Solomon understood the principle of what is in the blood. Cows are pretty expensive today. 22,000 cows at N100,000 per cow is a lot of money. That is very costly but it never really atones.

Redemption is not cheap. It took the blood of Jesus to do the redemption just once and for all. It is only the blood of Jesus that can atone.

Through Christ is atonement, not through works of the blood of animals. God made Him that knew no sin to be sin for us. He died that we might live. God shed his own blood to pay the penalty for us once and for all.
1. God established the principle that blood must be shed for sin.
2. Sinner must be covered with blood.
3. God provided animal sacrifice to be used for the redemption; sinless sacrifice.
4. An innocent has to be killed for the sinner.
5. God brought judgment of my sin on the sacrifice.

There is atonement, reconciliation forgiveness, redemption in the blood of Jesus.

The blood of Jesus is precious to God. His blood was shed at Calvary to redeem man.

When you remember the value of the blood of Jesus, you will not meddle with sin.
